The Application of Grouted Hollow Anchors in the Tunnel Excavation Support
    YE Dongfang
    2013, 27 (5):  1-3.
    Abstract ( 1960 )   Save
This paper presents the numerical analysis results of the grouted hollow anchors in the Gangtoushan Tunnel excavation support. The mechanism of the grouted hollow anchors is briefly introduced and the commercial software FLAC 3D is used. The displacement at the top of tunnel, plastic zones within the tunnel liner and the shear stress field during the construction are compared between the grouted hollow anchors and the conventional cement mortar grouted anchors. The results suggest that, compared with the conventional anchors, the grouted hollow anchors has a better performance in terms of pressure grouting since the grouting slurry can penetrating the fissures and cracks, results in a higher anchorage force and improved rock mass.

    Abstract ( 2456 )   Save
This paper presents a case history of the mitigation of no return slurry incident in the three-axis soil mixing for a deep excavation support project in Suzhou. Throughout the exploratory soil borings and laboratory testing, it is suggested that the groundwater conditions changed during the dewatering and piling operations in the silty and sandy soils. The disturbed silty and sand soils are the main cause that resulting the no slurry returning. Adding the bentonite into the soil strata would significantly improve the returning of the slurry in the soil mixing.

    Abstract ( 1932 )   Save
The potential Shangxintian landslide has a serious adverse effect on the construction and the future operation of the Wudongde Hydropower Plant and its dam.It is therefore necessary to conduct an extensive safety evaluation on its stability. The two dimensional stability analyses are performed based on the geotechnical investigation data. The results indicate that, under the normal conditions, the target slope is stable; under the storm rain condition,it is marginally stable. But,the stability under the seismic conditions is dramatically reduced with a factor of safety of 1.07.

Stability Evaluations of the Slope at the Left Abutment of a Reservoir
    WU Zuguo,YIN Guosheng,WANG Yaobang
    2013, 27 (5):  23-26.
    Abstract ( 2141 )   Save
The stability of the slope at the left abutment of abutment of a reservoir is evaluated in this paper. The overburden soil layer is above elevation of 1548.0 meters. The bedrock daylights the abutment slope. During the construction, tensile open cracks were observed at the rear of the slope. It is also observed that shear cracks distributed along the front toe of the slope. It is concluded that this soil movement was triggered by the vibrations from the compaction roller and other construction equipment. The original soil structures were destructed by the excessive vibrations. The lapse of the slope supporting measures could not eliminate the gradual deformation of the slope. The tensile cracks at the crown of the slope are widened and result in a landslide. The slide body was three dimensional monitored and evaluated by using the site specific geotechnical parameters. The impact of this slide on the adjacent buildings is also evaluated in this paper. The results indicate that, the slide body is marginally stable and the slope failure is likely under the heavy rain condition. The engineering mitigation is needed on the slide body. Due to the small scale of the slide body, the impact on the adjacent buildings is negligible and the slopes behind the slide body are stable.

    Abstract ( 2173 )   Save
Cohesive soil is one of common soil type in the coastal and southern part of China. Although cohesive soil has low bearing capacity and difficulties in compaction comparing those of cohesionless soils, it is still widely used in the engineering projects. The optimum dry density throughout the compaction is the key for a successful project. This paper discusses the relationships between the maximum dry density and the index properties of cohesive soils.

Application of RBF neural network in rockburst prediction
    ZHANG Deyong,WANG Yuzhou,ZHANG Zhihao
    2013, 27 (5):  31-33.
    Abstract ( 1462 )   Save
Rock burst is one of the main geological hazards in underground constructions at the high stress areas, so it is very important to be able to predict rock burst in an accurately and timely manner. Rock burst prediction has developed from using a single indicator to using multiple and comprehensive indicators. Radial basis function (RBF) neural network is an integrated prediction method. In RBF neural network design, network is designed as high dimensional space curve fitting, in which lowdimensional model inputs is transformed to highdimensional space through hidden layer. In this way,the nonlinear mapping between the input vectors and output vectors is established. Based on several theoretical criteria specific to the project, the established RBF neural network model is applied to rock burst prediction for a real project. The results of prediction are consistent with the actual situation.

    Abstract ( 1764 )   Save
Tailings dam is the structure constructed with refuse. The heterogeneous nature of the construction material, complexity of construction history, and the coupled interaction between stress field and seepage field makes the seepage and stability analysis difficult.GeoStudio software was used to analyze the seepage condition of a tailing dam in operation.Seepage analysis was performed to obtain the phreatic surface before and after the proposed construction to increase the height of the tailing dam, along with the degree of saturation, and flux. The information obtained from seepage analysis was then used in slope stability analysis to assess the factor of safety for proposed construction.

    Abstract ( 2103 )   Save
During tunnel outline excavation, airdecked charge as a newtype technology is being used gradually. The decoupling coefficient will directly influence the result of smooth blasting.Using rock mechanical properties obtained from airdecked charge testing site of tunnel excavation in Dabie mountain, and CowperSymonds failure criterion,a double arch decoupling charge blasting model was established by using LSDYNA,to obtain decoupling charge blasting stress and simulate the process of blasting stress over time. The stress of hole wall and its damage situation was analyzed in the case of the chargelength at 1.4m,1.5m,1.6m,1.7m and 1.8m,from which an optimum longitudinal decoupling coefficient in the range of 1.94 and 2.18 was obtained for Rock Class III in the hole depth at 3.5m.This offered a theoretical foundation for the parameters for presplitting and smooth blasting.
