Abstract: Doublerowed soldier piles have a wide application potential in providing support for the deep excavations when the adjacent conditions do not permit the use of ground anchors. The paper introduces the basic characteristics of the doublerowed soldier piles. The optimum spacing and the minimum embedment depth are analyzed. The results indicate that the optimum spacing is at the condition when the shear forces within the front pile and the rear pile are approximately equivalent. The minimum embedment depth of the doublerowed soldier piles is derived from the limit equilibrium analysis and is verified by a case history.
