Abstract: Through a case study, the dissipation of excessive pore water pressure during the high energy dynamic compaction process is evaluated. The dynamic compaction energy and the time interval between two compaction passes is optimized with respect to maximizing the soil improvement achieved. In this case study, the influence depth of the high energy dynamic compaction is determined to be approximately 11 meters and the effective improvement depth is determined to be 9 meters.
