Abstract: Quaternary sediments are deposited at both Baoding City and Xiongxian County. They are very similar and also differences exist in both areas in the geological properties. The physiographical characteristics, sediment environments, stratigraphy and sediment properties of these materials have been compared, summarized. The engineering investigation methods in these soils and ground improvement methods are presented in this paper.
