Evaluation and the Mitigation of a Deep Excavation failure in Thick Peaty Soils

Abstract: In this paper, the special engineering properties of a special soil (peaty soil) in Dianchi Lake in Kunming area are presented and a deep excavation failure in the peaty soils is evaluated throughout the finite element method by using Plaxis2D commercial software. Reasons that might cause the failure are analyzed and summarized. The content of this study can provide reference for the similar engineering design and construction.
