Abstract: Soil color is a reflection to the basic properties of soils, which has great significance on the agricultural production, the climate analysis and the geotechnical engineering. In this paper, current researches on soil color description methods, color measurement methods and factors of influence on soil color are firstly introduced, then the shortage of researches on the relationship between soil color and its physical and mechanical properties is analyzed, finally, some advices are provided for further research such as the soil color acquisition, quantitative analysis of soil color and the influence factors, the relationship between soil color and physical and mechanical properties.
