Abstract:  The fill work for airports are commonly improved by the dynamic compaction method. One of the key parameters for the quality control of the fill operation is the degree of compaction and the conventional testing methods have limited applications. This paper proposes using the Heavy Dynamic Cone Penetration Testing (HDCPT) blow counts N63.5 to correlate the degree of compaction. The correlations between the blow counts N63.5 and degree of compaction were obtained through the comparative tests. The minimum acceptable HDCPT blow counts N63.5 was used for the quality control.
