Abstract: A high rock slope of a highway under construction was very close to a residential community and was close to another state highway. To avoid the adverse effects of blasting on the nearby residents, buildings (structures) and the traffic safety of the live state highway, an innovative idea of “larger blasting quantity per blast and fewer blasting times” was proposed. By using the digital electronic detonator, the millisecond blasting technique was used to achieve the quick and safe blasting of the rock slope. The monitoring results of the residential community showed that the technology was within the standard safety limits for the residential vibrations. With a safe effect of the blasting, the surrounding environment safety as well as construction schedule were warranted.
