Abstract: The soilcement mixed column inserted with hot rolled steel beam as supporting structure has received wide applications in the deep excavation projects. The current laboratory test method of determining the strength of the composite structure does not consider the constraint effect of the hot rolled steel beam on the strength improvement of the soilcement mixed column. The strength underestimation of the composite structure might result in an overconservative design and the cost effectiveness of this structure might not be fully utilized. To investigation the impact of the constraint induced by the hot rolled steel beam on the soilcement mixed wall, various laboratory tests on composite structure with and without beam constraints were performed and the stiffness variation curves were obtained.
