Abstract: The macroeconomic structures are dramatically adjusted and the government's investments are lining towards the infrastructure area. The macro policy changes promote vast new opportunities and challenges to the geotechnical investigation business. More and more people are entering into this industry: some of them have full spectrum of education background but lack of practical experience; some of them are from the other disciplines and a systematically understanding of the industry are needed. This paper presents some basic aspects in the geotechnical investigation business in order to provide a wide understanding for people that are freshly in this industry.
