Abstract: This paper discusses the dilatometer test results in Shenyang area. The objective of these tests is providing verification results of dilatometer in the classification of Shenyang soils. The Shenyang soil parameters, such as, material index Id, horizontal stress index Kd, are obtained throughout these tests. The empirical relationships between material index Id and soil classification, unit weight as well as compression modulus in the vertical direction are developed. It is concluded that the lateral subgrade reaction modulus can be reasonably estimated by using the approach that is proposed by Tang Shidong. The comparative testing results conclude that the dilatometer is a technique that can be applied in Shenyang soils. This study also provides reliable data for the local soil design code preparations.
