Abstract: This paper presents the stress and strain distributions within the structural frames and raft foundation by considering the interactions among the three dimensional frame, raft foundation and foundation soils. The nonlinear properties of the materials are simulated with threedimensional finite element software ANSYS. Three types of foundation soil stiffness are assumed in the analyses in order to investigate its impact on the frame and raft structures. The numerical analysis results indicate that the soil stiffness has little impact on the differential settlement of the frames and rafts but it has large on the total settlement of the raft foundation. The stress distribution pattern will change if the stiffness of the foundation soils changes. The stress distribution of the foundation soils can also be obtained from the analysis and can be utilized in the safe structural design.
