Abstract: The slopes right shipgate approach channel at the Big Cane Gorge Hydraulic Project is a relatively steep incline slope. The stability of the rock mass is poor due to the soft layers sandwiched among the hard rock strata. It is anticipated that the rock mass stability will worsen and might result in the operational safety after the excavation of the leading edge of channel. The serious safety concern results in the additional investigation and testing of this slope.
