Abstract: The stability of the retaining walls are usually associated with their site meteorology, hydrology, topography, lithology, soil & rock conditions as well as the field hydrogeological conditions. Based on the analysis of the deformation characteristics of a retaining wall under both saturated and unsaturated conditions, it is concluded that the dewatering is a major reason casing the excessive deformation of this wall. The mitigation design includes clearing the drainage path, placing a gravity berm behind the wall.
