Abstract: This paper introduces the design concepts of the stability of a high fills over the saturated soft soils from a case study. The large distance cellular consisting of the cement mixed soil columns combined with the wick drains or sand columns accelerating the consolidation process, are proved to be an effective solution. In this method, closely spaced cement mixed soil columns should be installed in the area close to the toe of the fill, and a soil berm is usually placed at toe of the slope to increase the stability and to prevent the deeply seated failure mode resulting from the high fills. A gravel cushion is usually placed between the fills and the improved foundation soils. The slope face should also be protected by vegetation or concrete surface grids to prevent the soil erosions.
