Abstract: This paper discusses the technical details of detection the groundwater in the highly developed karst rocks using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). The feasibility of this technique is also discussed in the paper based on the principles of the GPR. The deflected energy at the groundwaterrock interface is quantitatively analyzed based on the electro-magnetic wave propagation theory. The paper also demonstrates the GPR data processing technique in the groundwater detection using a case history. The GPR predicted results are compared with the site excavations and found that the GPR technique improves the accuracy as well as the reliability of the groundwater prediction.
