Abstract: There are many high cut and fill slopes created in the Phase IV Immigration Project for the Three Gorges Reservoir affected areas in Wushan County. The instability or excessive deformation of these slopes might post a potential hazard to the safety of infrastructures, buildings and human life. This paper presents a case study of the stability evaluation of a high cut slope for the site of Western China Teachers Residential Community in Wushan County. Factors that affecting the stability of this slope are discussed in the paper. The limit equilibrium and geological analogy methods are used in the stability evaluation and prediction work. The stability mitigation scheme is a combination of masonry gravity retaining wall, flattening slope, reinforced concrete grid beams and installation of drainage system.
