Abstract: Numerous methods have been developed to describe the damage characteristics of brittle materials such as rock samples. Each method has its advantage and disadvantage. For rock samples under cyclic loading conditions, the plastic strain method is more popular compared with the acoustic emission method. This paper presents the results of using acoustic emission method to describe the damage evolution process of the sandstone rock samples under the cyclic loading conditions by taking the advantage of relationship between the acoustic emission and the rock damage. The results show that the damage evolution model based on AE variable is consistent with the experimental results.
