Abstract: This paper provides an introduction to main design parameters and engineering properties of the sandwick drains. It summarizes the effects the design parameters on postconstruction behavior of the foundation in soft clay.  The results indicate that the sandwick drains are most effective during construction.  They can continue to improve the subgrade stability of the postconstruction foundation to a certain extent, but the effect on improving the bearing capacity and reducing total settlement of postconstruction foundation is negligible. No environmental pollution from the sandwick drains were detected during longterm monitoring.
