Abstract: The gas well site in Chongqing is located at the top of a rolling hill.  A landslide occurred after several heavy rains since 2011. Within the landslide affected area, the deflection at the retaining walls, cracks on the vertical fence walls, and subsidence on the ground surface are observed. The landslide is a very common geohazard in the region. The slope instability hazard will not only adversely affect the gas extraction, but also infers a potential safety concerns for the site personnel and construction and even causes a huge loss of both property and human life. This paper presents the twodimensional finite element method applied in the slope stability evaluation based on the characteristics of the geological and subsurface conditions of the site.
