Abstract: The wave velocity measurement is an important branch of engineering geophysics and has received wide applications in the field of geotechnical engineering. The compressive and shear wave velocity measurement using suspensionhole method is fairly complicated in the result interpretation. In this paper, the formation and the propagation characteristics of the sonic wave and its measurements are introduced and discussed. The suspensionhole wave velocity measurement application in the geotechnical engineering is presented through case histories.
