Abstract: This paper presents a case study of the geotechnical investigation of a 500 kV electricity transformer substation. The geotechnical and hydrological conditions, especially slope supporting parameters of the site are characterized throughout the insitu and laboratory tests. The most cost effective retaining structure is predominantly the buttress type with gravity wall at some locations. The construction and monitoring aspects of the supporting structures are also introduced in this paper.
