Finite Element Analysis of Sand Drain Consolidations

Abstract: This paper presents finite element analysis results using ABAQUS. The equivalent planestrain method is used to numerically simulate the vertical settlement, lateral deflection and pore water pressure distribution in soft soils improved by preloading using sand drains. The difference between the measured values and the simulated values are discussed. In general, numerical simulation can satisfactorily predict vertical settlement and the pore water pressure distribution.
