Abstract: The progressive failure mechanism should be considered in the stability analysis of soil slopes with fissures and expansioncontraction characteristics. This paper presents the numerical analysis results of slope stability analyses using the strength reduction method. Local deformations as well as the development of the failure planes can be numerically simulated by ABAQUS. As a result, the factor of safety and the effects of the slope angle and the soil dilatant angle on the slope stability can be observed.
