Abstract: The open cut excavation has been frequently used in the rail transit projects as a commonly applied construction method due to it fast construction and applicability to a wide variety of geological conditions. As a supporting structure for the open cut excavation, the TrenchCutting& Remixing Deep (TRD) Wall Method has the advantages over other conventional excavation supporting methods, such as, slurry wall, SoilCement Mixing Wall (SMW), and tangent pile castinplace concrete pile wall. This paper presents a case history of the transit excavation project in the regional light rail S1 Line in Wenzhou. All four excavation supporting construction methods were compared. It was concluded that the TRD method is applicable to the thick soft soil strata and this method has the advantage of reliable, cost effective and fast construction.
