Abstract: The compaction, mechanical and permeability tests are conducted after the fine-grained soil and crushed stone are mixed with different mixing ratios. With the increase of the gravel content, the maximum dry density of soil rock mixture increases and the optimal moisture content decreases. After the compaction, with the increase of rock content, the shear strength, the compression modulus, and the permeability of soil rock mixture increases. The reason for the above engineering characteristics of mixture is that with the increase of gravel content in the soil, gravel particles in the soil gradually form a skeleton, and fine-grained soil is filled in the skeleton. The formed soil structure contacts and occludes with each other during the shearing process, which enhances the shear strength and reduces the compressibility. At the same time, more voids are formed in the soil, the permeability increases.
