Abstract: As a large technical challenge, the deep excavation in high fill soils usually is usually sensitive to the adjacent environmental impact due to their heterogeneous nature of the backfill soils and poor engineering properties. The excavation supporting structure in these areas are usually have the characteristics of high investment cost and long construction schedule. The steel tube soil nail wall is installed by driving (or predrilling and placing) the perforated steel tube with barbs into the borehole and the grouting the tubes. The major difference between the steel tube soil nails and conventional soil nails is that the steel tube soil nails utilizing the perforated steel tubes comparing the regular reinforcement bars, and it is more suitable applying in the loose soil strata. This paper presents a combination of steel tube soil nail wall plus sloped open cut. The construction experience indicates that this type of soil nail wall is applicable to the loose fill soils with low groundwater table.
