Abstract: An existing dynamic compaction improved crushed stone site has served as a raw material storage yard for many years. The storage yard needs to be intelligently upgraded and the accurate determination of the site shear strength indices are required from the geotechnical investigations. This paper analyzes a large amount of in-situ plate loading test and large scale direct shear test results and the results are used to calibrate the Beker Cone Penetration Test results. The results indicate that the shear strength parameters obtained from the in-situ plate loading tests and in-situ large scale direct shear tests are more reliable for the crushed stone soils.

Key words: plate loading tests, large scale direct shear tests, characteristic value of bearing capacity, shear strength, deformation modulus
