Abstract: Unlike the common land originated quartz sandy soils formed by the weathering rock, the calcareous sand is formed by a long period of weathering of biological remains in the marine environment. Due to the uniqueness of its formation process, the calcareous sand retains some of the structure and component characteristics of biological remains, such as, calcium carbonate content>50%; irregular shape;easy to break; easy cementation of particles, high internal friction angle, high porosity ratio, large intergranular occlusion force, etc. The reason why it is different from the general continental and marine sedimentary objects in engineering mechanical properties is the two aspects; such as, composition and morphology. In this paper, the study of the particle morphology is also presented.
