Abstract: With the rapid development of urban rail transit, the deep excavations are usually adjacent to the active subway tunnels in the central urban area, the restrictive deformation demands opposed on these active rail tunnels must be met by the excavation activities to ensure the safety operation of the subway. Because of this high requirement on the deflection of supporting structures, the designing of excavation supporting structures is controlled by deformation not by strength. Combined with the practice of the deep excavation adjacent to a subway tunnel in Shenzhen central area, the design, construction and monitoring throughout the entire construction process are introduced, the construction of the deep excavation is simulated by the numerical simulation method. The deformation of excavation and its impact on the subway is also analyzed. The results of monitoring and analysis are compared and evaluated. The design analysis method and construction measures are further summarized, which provide valuable references for similar projects.
