Abstract: The loose sediment at the bottom of bored piles will reduce the side friction and the resistance at the bottom of the pile. It is one of the important factors affecting the quality of the bored pile foundation. Due to the adverse effect of the bottom loose sediment to the bearing resistance of bored piles, the accurate measurement of the thickness of the bottom loose sediments is an important aspect in the bored pile construction. The soft sediment measurement methods before and after the concrete pouring for different construction procedures are summarized in this paper. The principles and results of these measurement methods are also introduced. Different methods for the specific construction methods are also recommended in this paper.
