Abstract: This paper presents a case study of a suspension bridge construction in karst terrain: ChinaMyanmar natural gas pipeline crossing the Lancang River Project. The comprehensive investigation methods for the rock anchorage zone design and construction. The engineering characteristics of rock anchorage zone were investigated by engineering geology survey, geotechnical borings, geophysical methods, crosshole electromagnetic wave CT, acoustic velocity measurement, borehole panoramic digital image and laboratory tests. The geological stratigraphy, distribution of karst caverns and rock pinnacles, integrity of karstic rock mass and hydrogeological aspects of rock anchorage zone were extensively evaluated. The design parameters for the construction were also recommended in the paper.

Key words: tunnel anchorage, comprehensive investigation methods, engineering geology of rock mass, karst terrain
