Abstract: While the highspeed rail provides a new and efficient travel experience to the public, the impact of the vibrations induced by the operational highspeed rail on the adjacent residents and buildings require detailed investigation. The vibration spectrum and dissipation characteristics in the soft soils underneath the rail alignment is critical to the evaluation of the adjacent environmental quality. In this paper, the highspeed rail segment between Qingsheng station and Shiziyang tunnel in GuangzhouShenzhen passenger rail line is used for the vibration study, the vibrations in the embankment zone, embankment and viaduct transition zone and viaduct zone, especially, the vibration characteristics of the transition zone which received less attention previously, were field monitored and studied. The time and spectrum distribution characteristics, intensity as well as dissipations are statistically analyzed. The dissipation formula of vibration in the transition zone was developed. The time and frequency differences among the vibrations in embankment zone, transition zone and viaduct zone are discussed and the possible factor that could result in these differences are explored.
