Abstract: The major geology challenges in the Sandaogou Forest Farm Hydropower Station Project are:low dip angle joints in the bedrock of dam foundations; stability of rock mass surrounding the intake water tunnel; pressurized water pipes and rock slope stability at the power house. This paper presents the results of the geotechnical investigations. The geological, lithological and topographical evaluations at the proposed site are systematically presented. The stability of the intake water tunnel is evaluated throughout the rock mass classification process. Finally, the stability of the rock slope is numerically investigated. The engineering mitigations and recommendations for the major issues encountered in the constructions are also presented in the paper.
