Numerical Analysis of Effects of Deep Excavation on Existing Metro Structure

Abstract:  MIDAST/GTS was used to develop a three dimensional model to study the effects of deep excavation on an existing metro structure. The results suggest that the proposed deep excavation design is capable of controlling the maximum displacements of existing metro structure in both horizontal and vertical directions within tolerable limit, i.e., the excavation has minimal impact to the metro structure. The numerical model was also used to propose the approaches to reduce the possible risks in the process of deep excavation.
