Abstract: This paper presents a case history of using an improved vacuum preloading method for the improvement of dredged mucky soils. The construction procedures and the key technical aspects of this improved method are summarized. The monitored data include: settlement, pore water pressure, degree of vacuum, and the vane shear undrained shear strength. The results indicate that this improved method can provide a fast and simple construction soil improvement tool for the coastal dredged mucky soils and the result of this method is satisfactory.
