Abstract: With the urbanization development in recent years, the urban transportation is facing the challenge from the urban population increase. The urban rail transportation, as it is represented by the Metro and the light rail system, is usually a good solution to the public transportation in large cities. Due to the special engineering requirements of the Metro system and the geological variation along the subway lines, unique characteristics are existed in the geotechnical investigations for these projects. This paper presents the case study of Metro System between Stations of Xiongzhou and Phoenix Mountain Park of Pahse I of NingTian Intercity Light Rail Project. The geological stability, site evaluation, uniformity of subsurface soils and rock mass, special geomaterial as well as adverse geological condition aspects of the project are introduced. Design recommendations for the Metro System are also presented in the paper.
