Abstract: Minimizing the soil erosion and maintain the ecological environment are the major objectives of the bioengineering restoration of slopes. This paper presents the stateoftheart of bioengineering methods in the slope stabilization applications. The sprayed soil base layers with lignin as a bonding agent technology is also introduced in the paper. The direct shear tests on lignin bonded soil base layer samples and the moisture content control of the base layer materials are examined. The feasibility of using lignin as the bonding agent instead of other bonding materials in the bioengineering method of slope stabilization and vegetation are also discussed in the paper. The optimum material ratios of bonding soil base layers using lignin is determined based on the testing comparisons.
