Abstract: A high slope of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) International Reserve tank farm in Xingang, Dalian is at the north of the site and is adjacent to the Xingang Port. The total length of this slope is 1210 meters and the elevations at the crest of the slope are greater than 30 meters with a maximum elevation of 107.8 meters. The elevation changes in the crosssectional directions are also large. The inclination of the rock joints is unfavorably daylighted to the slope; further, there is a loose and broken bedrock zone at the top. Both limit equilibrium based circular slicing and the finite element analysis based strength reduction methods are utilized to evaluation the stability of this slope. The results indicate that the circular slicing method could not accurately determine the potential sliding surface and the results are not reliable. The strength reduction method results indicate that the slope stabilization mitigation measures are necessary.
