Application of Cone Penetration Tests in the Investigation of Large Storage Tank Farms in Loess

Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents a case history of the application of Cone Penetration Test (CPT) in the geotechnical investigation of a large oil storage tank farm in loess soils. The details of stratigraphy, bearing capacity of soil foundations, and the axial capacity of single piles are also introduced in the paper. Finally, both advantages and the disadvantages of applying the CPT in loess soils are discussed in the paper.
