Abstract: The appropriately distributed of transducers in the three dimensional monitoring system for the stability of a high slope can improve the monitoring reliability, reduce the monitoring cost as well as ensure the safety of the cut slope. This paper presents an optimization design of the monitoring system of combining the prestressed ground anchor monitoring probes and the slope inclinometers. The optimization design is based on the application of the optimality principles as well as the three dimensional numerical analysis. This optimized system was applied in the stability monitoring of an expressway high cut slope. The results indicate that this optimized method can effectively reduce the use of construction materials and cost. The coverage of the monitoring system can be maximized and the monitoring errors, such as, data loss, repeated data, can be minimized.
