The potential risks during the tunnel excavation are identified and the measures that mitigating those hazards are presented. The combination of the large diameter steel pipe shielding and the deep hole grouting methods are proved to be successful. The use of the shield support is critical to the safe excavation of the tunnel when is close to the residential buildings.
