Abstract: Based on an engineering case study, a three-layer cross-brace support system with double-row piles was modeled using MIDAS GTS NX to analyze the behavior of the internal support structure. Numerical simulation results were compared with field monitoring data to identify the deformation characteristics of the retaining system. The findings show that horizontal displacement is concentrated in the central portion of the excavation, exhibiting a “small at both ends and large in the middle” pattern. At the initial stages, excavation depth and displacement are positively correlated; when the excavation reached 12.5 m, pile displacement peaked and subsequently decreased, reaching a minimum near the pile toe. The MIDAS numerical model predicted maximum lateral deflections of the front and rear pile rows that were 17.6% and 16% higher, respectively, than the measured values. The horizontal displacement of the front row piles was slightly greater than that of the rear row piles, likely due to soil deformation during excavation. The front row piles may experience greater compression and distortion, resulting in larger displacements compared with the rear row piles.
