Abstract: Wanning City, located on the southeastern flank of Hainan Island, has experienced rapid real-estate expansion driven by the province’s development as an international tourism destination. Intensive construction activities in mountainous terrain have resulted in large-scale slope excavation. Combined with the region’s humid maritime climate—characterized by annual precipitation exceeding 900 mm—these conditions have significantly increased the risk of landslides. Although engineered slope-support systems have been implemented in many developments, issues such as excessive structural displacement and localized support failure continue to occur due to construction deficiencies, design limitations, and adverse environmental factors. This paper presents a detailed case study of a mountain-slope support project in Wanning City. The investigation documents the landslide process, deformation characteristics of the support system, failure of ground anchors, and subsequent reinforcement measures. The findings provide practical insights and technical reference for similar slope-stabilization projects within Hainan Province.
