Abstract: The settlement of a railway embankment between Station DK56+043 and +150 is presented in this paper. The railway embankments are monitored, and the data are analyzed by applying the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions so that the factors that triggered in the settlement are evaluated. The deformation of the embankment and the subgrade soils are correlated with the total settlement at the embankment so that the embankment settlement control measures are proposed. The following conclusions are obtained: the compactive deformation due to the self-weight the embankment and the subgrade fills are observed. Most of the settlements are due to the compaction deformation of the less compacted soil layers; there is a small portion of the settlement is due to the consolidation settlement. Based on the settlement rate of the monitored data and the groundwater level variations; the consolidation settlement is due to the lowering the groundwater level.
