Abstract: The embankment constructed with lime improved soils has a higher strength and better stability. Compared with the embankments constructed with conventional soils, the lime improved embankments can be safely constructed with steep slope and result in a lower construction cost. However, the method to determine the appropriate slope angle for the lime improved embankment has not been reported. This paper first discussed the mechanism of the lime improved embankments and the micro-structures of the lime treated soils. The effect of different slope angles and embankment heights on the slope stability is studied with GeoSlope software. The paper also summarizes the case histories of two lime improved embankments and the appropriate slope angle for the lime improved embankment is recommended.
