Abstract: The comprehensive statistic studies on the relationships between the mechanical and the various indices properties have been performed on undisturbed soft clay samples from the third phase construction of Xuanmen Bay sea dikes in Zhejiang. The results indicate the some good relationships do exist between the mechanical properties and the physical indices. The both mechanical and physical properties change with the deposition depth and the soil fabrics. The linear regression analysis results show that good correlations between the compression coefficient and the void ratio as well as the natural moisture content, whereas, the soil sensitivity does not have a good relationship with the void ratio. It is concluded that, at the preliminary design stage, it is possible to use the physical indices to estimate the soil compression coefficient.
