Abstract: With the development of urban construction, there are more and more underground projects being developed. The main characteristics of deep excavation are introduced systematically in this paper. The conventional deep excavation supporting systems are summarized: sloped excavation, soil nailing wall method, sheet pile support, diaphragm wall, inner support, anchored soldier pile support structure and composite retaining structure. The conventional bottomup construction method and the topdown construction method are the main construction techniques in the construction of deep excavation. The construction characteristics of the bottomup construction method and the topdown construction method in the deep excavation are summarized. The constructionsuggestions for the topdown construction method are provided for other similar projects. A case history of the deep excavation was introduced in this paper. The deformation and settlement curves of the diaphragm wall are analyzed, and the maximum deformation position and maximum settlement position of the diaphragm wall are determined.
