Abstract: The thick and loose sandy gravel and pebble soils are widely deposited in the river and valley region of southeast Tibet. The gravel and pebble soils have a high shear strength and good water stability, but they are difficult to compact. Based on the experience of various dynamic projects performed on the thick deposited gravel and pebble soils, it is concluded that the dynamic compaction method can improve the bearing capacity characteristics and meeting the project requirements. Dynamic compaction method is proved to be a wellestablished and costeffective method for various engineering projects.
