Some Considerations of Applying Digital Images in the Expansive Soil Crack Analyses

Abstract

Abstract: The photographic image is a new method for study soil crack. There are many factors that affect the quantitative analysis of crack characteristics in the data acquisition and processing of the digital image. Common problems encountered in the expansive soil analysis are explored. The effect of factors, such as, light source, resolution of the image and threshold values in the digital processing, on the digital processing are discussed and improving suggestions are proposed in the paper.
